Access Speech-Language Signature System

ACCESS Signature System

1. Screening, Brief Assessment and Consult
Screening, brief assessment and consult are provided through an individualized combination of reviewing pertinent records and reports, completion of on-line screening and brief assessment tools (observational descriptions of a child’s listening, speaking, reading and writing skills), in-person or on-line (e.g. via Skype) screening and assessment using the actual programs and consult to discuss findings and recommendations.

2. Fast ForWord Foundations I (approximately grades 1 – 4) or Literacy (approximately grades 5 & up)
Reading, talking and listening require multiple brain areas. If the connections between these are slow or muddled, then reading and learning are very difficult. Scientists have discovered that people who struggle with reading often have problems in how their brains process speech. Fast ForWord Foundation I connects multiple brain areas and improves the foundational skills of memory, attention, processing rate and sequencing. Children develop the perceptual and cognitive skills that are essential for language, reading and learning across the board. There is no printed content at this level; learning is all based in expanded listening, perceiving and remembering.

3. Fast ForWord Foundations II (approximately grades 1 – 4) or Literacy Advanced (approximately grades 5 & up)
The Fast ForWord Foundations II Advanced program is the next step in improving the foundational perceptual and cognitive skills of memory, attention, processing rate and sequencing. Printed content for reading is added at this level.

Note: The student is expected to complete the two previous programs at their grade level before advancing to Reading 1-5.

4. Fast ForWord Reading 1-5
The Fast ForWord Reading 1-5 programs are the next steps in building reading, language and cognitive skills after the foundational and necessary perceptual and cognitive skills have been strengthened in the previous two programs.

*Fast ForWord is a series of on-line computer programs designed by neuroscientists that are scientifically proven to radically improve reading, learning and language skills through the use of fun and effective video-game programs.

5. Reading Assistant Plus
Once your child has learned the basics of reading, the next stage is mastery. The key to mastery is practice, practice and more practice. However practice alone is not sufficient. The other key ingredient is correction and feedback. Reading Assistant is the only on-line reading tool that uses speech recognition to correct and support students as they read aloud, building fluency, vocabulary and comprehension with the help of a supportive listener. No other program or e-book provides comparable real-time guidance and feedback.

6. Nervanix Insight
Nervanix Insight provides feedback to the child on his/her attention level, and helps the child stay focused while reading or engaged in other academically important tasks. It is the only program that visually prompts a user as attention declines and uses bio-feedback technology to do this.

7. Brain HQ
Think faster, focus better, remember more. Brain HQ provides effective, clinically proven, non-invasive on-line tools for adolescents and adults that engage the brain’s natural plasticity to improve brain functioning.
